Intoduction to Philosophy 102

This course is designed to discuss important comtemporary philosophical issues. There are 7 lesson plans this semester. The topics that we will discuss include:

1 Truth and Falsity
2. Objectivity and Subjectivism
3. Moral Judgment and Dilemmas
4. God and Religion
5. Action and Speech
6. Punishment and Consequences
7. Liberty and Justice

Each week I will post points from the reading to look out for and questions to help guide your reading. There will be an assignment to accompany each topic, giving you roughly two weeks to complete each reading assignment (roughly 20-25 pages) and submit your response. Lessons 3 and 6 (30 points) will be quizzes proctored by Germanna Testing Center. Lessons 2 and 5 (30 points) will be 2-3 page summary papers. Lessons 1 and 4 (20 points) will be submitting blog responses. Lesson 7 (20points)will be a power point presentation as your final submission.

Lesson 1: Truth and Falsity- 10 points
Please read pps: ; respond to the question. Responses are graded based on clarity, development, relevance and use of the reading. I will post an example question and response.

Lesson 2: Objectivity and Subjectivism- 15 points
Please read pps. and then submit a 2-3 summary paper of the points discussed in the paper.

Lesson 3: Moral Judgments and Dillemas- 15 points
Please read pps; go to the Fredericksburg Testing Center this week to take your proctored quiz. The quiz will be comprised of 15 short answer/ multiple choice questions.

Lesson 4: God and Religion- 10 points
Please read pps: ; respond to the blog question. Responses are graded based on clarity, development, relevance and use of the reading. I will post an example question and response.

Lesson 5: Action and Speech- 15 points
Please read pps. and then submit a 2-3 summary paper of the points discussed in the paper.

Lesson 6: Punishment and Consequences- 15 points
Please read pps; Please go to the Fredericksburg Testing Center this week to take your proctored quiz. The quiz will be comprised of 15 short answer/ multiple choice questions.

Lesson 7: Liberty and Justice- 20 points
Please read pps. ;Final Powerpoint Presentation. Please complete a 10-15 slide presentation to be submitted to instructor and made available for other students in class after due date. More details will given closer to the due date.

There is no time limit to completing each lesson plan- you have until April 30, however to turn in all submissions and each lesson plan must be completed in numerical order. Also, I will be sending points to think about and questions to help guide you through each lessons reading. I will be following a two week schedule- in other words - I will be turning my attention to a different lesson every two weeks, however as long as you turn your work in before April 30 you may work at a slower or faster pace.
